The Global Energy Prize. A tribute to those who changed the world
The Global Energy Prize
Author: Irina Belasheva
In this book you will find 37 stories about scientists – scientists who, over the past 16 years, have become laureates of the Global Energy Prize, awarded for outstanding scientific discoveries that have benefited all of humanity.
The heroes of this book are very different, they’ve come from different countries and they are adherents of various scientific trends. But they have one thing in common - they are all energy scientists who have made breakthrough discoveries in nuclear energy, heat engineering, semiconductors, development of renewable resources, for which they were awarded the Global Energy Prize.
The discoveries of these people were embodied in concrete decisions. They created new branches of science. We cannot imagine our life without their discoveries, be it nuclear reactors for the fleet, lithium-ion batteries, catalysts, solar batteries, geological studies of oil or shale deposits. All of them are passionate for scientific work, for the process of research itself, and at the same time they desire to change something in human’s life. That is why their discoveries do not lie in the field of pure science, but are embodied in specific technologies. The Global Energy Prize laureates are people of the global level of tasks that they were able to solve.
Each of the Global Energy Prize Laureates is a Scientist with a capital“S.” Each of Laureates is a Personality with a capital “P.” And each invention unlocks countless opportunities for mankind.
